Black Alex First Sak Pase Records Single

This is Black Alex's first single for his Sakapfet Records Label (Wyclef's new label). Featuring Elephant Man.

This is the story behind this song. Black Alex is very popular haitian singer. He started singing with King Posse, the group that made Ragga-muffin (or what we haitian call rap) popular in Haiti. King Posse took the country by storm in the late 90s with a song called 'Local' and 4 carnaval songs that were extremely popular among both kids and adults.

The band later went down as some of the singers left for Canada and because of bad management. Black Alex had a serious drinking and drug problem and he could be found at every night club in Petion-Ville acting drunk and stupid: freestyling at every event where there is a mic. At some point it got so bad that his freestyles wouldn't make any sense. However, whenever he was featured in a song with another artist, that song topped the charts. As an artist, if you needed to make a hit song, get black alex in your studio and let him work his magic. Sometimes he would get in the studio very high and drunk and you could barely understand what he was saying in the song. Nevertheless, the song would be a hit. There was even a song where after he ended his verse the rest of the band started singing: 'Black Alex is drunk, drunk, drunk'.

At some point, his drug habit got so bad that he almost died. He was hospitalized and many thought he was living his last days. There were even rumors one day that he was dead, but he did recover. Finally, Wyclef decided to help "the Black" (as we call him back home) and started supporting him, eventually signing him up on his new record Label: Sak Pase Records. He gave Black Alex a huge medallion worth thousands of dollars, which Black Alex always carried around with him. It was a big one!!! Like the ones Rakim used to sport.

One day, Black Alex got shot many times by some gangsters who stole the medallion. Once again, "the Black" was close to knocking on Heaven's door. He survived and later wrote this song which title is "They shot the black".

The lyrics of the chorus are:
"They shot the black
They took the black's medallion
They shot the black
They took the black's medallion"

Black Alex new album should come soon and this is the first single. I heard another song which is a reggae track where he is singing about how dangerous drugs are and how they almost took his life away. It seems like Black Alex learned his lesson and has been staying away from the drugs. He is now ready to take the world with Sak Pase Records.

Haitian Hip Hop

Haitian Hip Hop is coming back!!!

Check out some classics:

Rap'n Family no longer exists but this is one of their classic tracks. The younger MC was close to 10 years old when they started putting songs out. Make sure you watch the video til the end to see how talented he is.. This ain't no Lil Bow Wow. The first popular female haitian rapper was part of this group: Spanish... This video came out when Mortal Kombat was very popular, thus the name and theme: Haiti Kung Fu.

Jules is based in Boston. One of the first rappers from the Diaspora. In this song, Jules is describing his struggles leaving in the USA. HBO ( = Haitian Body Odor) is a term that was used in US cities to discrimate against Haitians. Jules is condemning the practice in this song.

Barikad Crew is a new rap group from Port-au-Prince. They became very popular in 2006 with that track. They are like the haitian Wu Tang and have close to a dozen members.

Wyclef is the haitian ambassador. Always proud to represent Haiti. In this song, he features some of the talent he found in some of the worst slums in Haiti such as Cite Soleil. Jimmy-O is getting very popular in Haiti (he is the last one to rap in the song).

RockFam is a great new group with a great producer. The production in this video is a little more creative then the other ones.

Benchwoumy pays tribute to his hometown of Kafou.

Lupe Fiasco @ 930 Club

SICK SICK SICK... The best concert that I've seen in some time. All he had was a dj, a hype man, and a mic... You're seeing a start come up! I honestly can't think of a bad Lupe song. Check out his site, on MySpace, and on Wikipedia.
